It’s the end of the world as we know it (and I feel fine)
I’m reading the news, another war in the Middle East with the usual suspects in the mix (Iran, Israel and US), let’s add it to:
- the war in Europe (Russia, Ukraine and NATO)
- and the war in South America1 (Venezuela, Cuba and US)
- and the war in South Asia (Afghanistan and Pakistan)
- and the soon(™) war in East Asia (Taiwan and China)
Is it the end of the world as we know it?
Probably, but the world has been a mean and unforgiving place for a long time; all things considered, our lives keep going on without much of a change: if you had no news, would you know all these wars were going on?
And why am I feeling fine?
Because I can’t do anything to change the course of these events? I mean, is there really more to say?
God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference.
I get now why people kept polishing the brass on the Titanic… what else there is to do? Rage against the machine? And then what, come home and run a hot bath to calm the nerves?
I’m too old to lie, even to myself.
Or whatever you want to call the Venezuelan and Cuban thing↩
