Riff: MUSE LOOKS CUTE, BUT LOOKS ARE DECEIVING
Gruber piece has merits: regular people have no idea what any of the permissions they allow apps to have actually do, and they shouldn’t I would add.
But why are we forced over and over to assign permission at the app level?
Why can’t we have an onboarding experience where, in plain English, we decide once what we want to share, and the OS enforces that for any app running?
- Do you want apps to have access to your messages? Yes / No
- Access to emails? Yes / No
- To photos? Yes / No
You can then apply exceptions, in the OS settings, for the apps that do need access.
I hope we will get there, but that requires us owning our devices, not the other way round.
