Marty Supreme (2025)
It’s a 2025 movie, about a 1950s story, shoot like they did in the 1980s.
What happen to their lighting budget? Half of the scenes are half lit, they had lights in the 1950s too!
As the story goes, Marty is a hard guy to like, it’s actually a capital A asshole, you hit the one hour mark, and ask yourself, where is this going?
Yeah sure, little New York jewish guy with big mouth and even bigger ego, it’s entertaining, but is not like we haven’t seen it before, so what else? Good songs and fresh astethics carry you only so far.
Is he gonna get what’s coming? You will find out, the second hour goes by with more of the same, it never really takes the next step.
Not sure what all the buzz was about, quickly forgettable kind of affaire.
Do I recommend it?
Yes - the production quality (minus the terrible lighting) is there, you will get your money worth of cinema magic and performance are solid too.
Rewatchable?
No - nothing that would entice me to watch it again.
If you want a a Safdie movie of a nevrotic jewish guy in New York1, Uncut Gems (2019) is the better one.
The better movie to watch from Safdie is overall Good Time (2017), it also made me change my opinion of Pattinson somewhat.
I know, wild that there are two to choose from the same director.↩
