The Old Man and the Screen

Riff: Every minute you aren't running 69 agents, you are falling behind

What a beautiful summary of what progress through human ingenuity is by geohot (George):

If you create more value than you consume, you are welcome in any well operating community.

I think at its core, value creation, is putting atoms in order.

Think about it, anything we ever did was rearranging atoms, all that life, nature and the universe ever does is rearranging atoms!

Some forces, the default?, rearrange atoms in a suboptimal way (disorder, chaos… entropy) while other forces, conscious forces, bend the physical realm to their needs establishing order.

That seems to sum in broad strokes the human experience: make order out of chaos.

Any facet of human existence has been reordering atoms into a more optimal form to our goal of survival.

Is this what good is? Order? Is this what bad is? Chaos?

Human civilisations have been debating this since the beginning of history and before too, there truly is nothing new under the sun.

I think the atoms order/chaos explanation will ring truer to the modern mind than angels/demons, but scratch the surface and we’re all telling about the same forces and outcomes using different narrative devices.

Back to George point, to paraphrase:

If you create more order than chaos, you are welcome in any well operating community.

I think this rings instinctively true, and taking into account the caveat yin and yang shows us (a little chaos is needed and inevitable among the order and viceversa), it is True.
