Riff: normal people don't use the internet
Good post from riz0me (riz?) on how you can’t see the wall of the bubble you occupy, but it’s there, I would argue we live inside an onion structured bubble, pop one layer, and you will find the next, and the next, so many bubbles!
The riff that came to mind is about how everyone’s (ok, most) identity seems to have shifted into their work / job title / occupation.
But wait, this is nothing new, right? Surnames like Saylor, Taylor, (black)Smith, tell us we used occupation to identify ourself long before the internet came about, so what’s going on?
I think the internet ability to blur the lines of public and (multiple) private conversation spaces, results in the most chatty space (work) being ever present in all other spaces and conversations.
So it might seem as people’s identity are more and more converging into their occupation, when instead it is us getting more and more exposure to that side of people’s lives, even from people that would have no reason to ever talk about the details of their work to us.
