The analytics page

There is a weird pull the analytics page has on me, I don’t like it.

It is slowly quickly becoming part of a routine, just checking “The numbers”… why? I don’t know, is not that I get any pleasure or discomfort either way, I (partially) lie to myself that I just want to quickly see if someone has linked to one of my posts, so I can engage (if warranted) but really, I just want to see “The numbers”, again no real value in doing it, and yet… I do it.

The wishlist

Herman, if you’re reading, make it Xmas in Spring! This is what the ideal analytics page would look like for me:

• list of referrals from other blogs/sites only (I don’t care for search site)
• last 10 post view score (average views, above, below)
• no numbers anywhere¹
• map of visitors, coloured in Country for visitors, more intense hue for higher (relative) number
• time filters as they are, it’s fine

I just want to get a sense if my latest writings is getting traffic, where people are from, if someone is waiting for me to reply to their post… that’s it.

If we can’t get those changes, then editing the page like we can already do in other parts of the site will do, and someone more clever than me will come up with something I can bastardise into a solution for me.

Until then, I will check “The numbers” I don’t know why, but I know I will.
