The Old Man and the Screen

Touch of Evil (1958)

A car bomb goes off at the US-Mexico border, a rich industrialist dead, nothing is what it seems.

It pulls you in and without even noticing, soon enough you’re deep into a spiralling story, multiple characters, multiple locations, multiple plots, all coming together for a satisfying finale.

Touch of Evil, first scene

Do I recommend it?

Yes - Orson Welles, directing and starring, on the side of a very makeup heavy Charlton Heston, in the 1998 re-cut of the movie, it’s a couple of hours well spent. You can’t go wrong if you like the crime, thriller or noir genres.

Rewatchable?

No - only for fans, the plot is always going one way and without the suspense of a first watch, many moments might became dull, especially as the scenes tend to take their time to unfold.
